Many of us today publish photos, gifts, and celebrate Third Sunday of June with joy saying it as father’s day, I really got amused by the facts why this father’s day is celebrated and wanted to investigate we as Indians and carriers of sanathana dharma (Hindus) have any links towards celebrating this festival of joy.
Am writing this article because most of the people around us ask me why we celebrate different festivals and question ethnicity and scientific reasons behind Hindu festivals and reject them in the name of environment and also many great intellectuals who question about Shraddha karma(After death rituals) that we(Hindus) follow to show our remembrance of our forefathers , so let us see why our favorite father’s day is celebrated.
Early History:
For centuries until 1500’s orthodox church appointed second Sunday before Nativity(Christmas to be precise) basically which falls between Dec 11th to Dec 17th to commemorate forefathers of Jesus according to flesh like Adam, Abraham, Noah, David and many more Holy prophets according to bible.
I can challenge and say many of my friends reading this would not have even idea about these biblical figures (No offence), if you do not know about these figures please do google about these people and get to know whether you want to accept them as your forefathers.

Evolution of Father’s day:
First customary day that was fixed by catholic church as fathers day was in 1508 and was celebrated on march 19th as feast day of saint Joseph, who was referred as Husband of Virgin Mary and father of Lord Jesus, this day was basically brought by Spanish and Portuguese invaders to America who killed more than 130 million people in the name of civilization,

later this day of march 19th was shifted to July 20th by Coptic orthodox church.
But in 1909, A lady named Sonora smart dodd, who along with her five brothers were raised by her father alone being inspired by mothers day in a church convinced to celebrate this on Third Sunday of June as father’s day to continue the tradition to honor saint Joseph on this day.
I personally think that western world lack respect in relationships (getting better now) because there is no such strong bonds like we have in Indian marriage system, on this occasion i remember my English teacher Rammurthy sir’s quote “Your Children and my children are playing with our children” saying about western relationships and that is why they need to Meet, spend and honor their own fathers on a specific day, I strongly think we have so many such days to remember and honor our fathers and forefathers in our tradition.
